Holistic Martial Art System from Ancient Russia Is Now Available To The Creative, Free-Spirited & Imaginative Child “Who Just Doesn’t Fit In” To The Rigid, Left-Brained Teaching Model of Asian-Based Martial Arts Schools
Your right-brained child will finally thrive in our One-Of-A-Kind, Free-Form and Inspiring Classroom!
Dear Fellow Parent:
My name is Brad Scornavacco and I have been teaching children for well over 20 years. I have seen my students undergo amazing personal transformation through their training. But let me tell you about a special kind of child, maybe one like your own child. There was a select type of child I taught who just didn’t learn very well through the traditional martial art system I teach, or that came from other schools. I have seen this same type of kid struggle in academic school, get labeled as disruptive, even ADD and, sadly, fall far short of his potential. I have recognized that this child-type is extremely intelligent--but needs a different, less-restrictive teaching method to bring out his latent capabilities. I always lamented that this type of child wasn’t older because, in addition to teaching traditional martial arts, I also teach an ADULTS-ONLY, holistic martial art called Systema. After seeing enough of these creative, highly intelligent, non-conformist kids struggle in school and “fall through the cracks” I just knew I had to teach them Systema; it would be the best thing in the world for them. Right then decided to teach Systema to children.
3 Reasons Why Systema Hasn’t Been Taught To Kids In The U.S. Before Now
REASON #1: Most adults train in Systema for its brutal combat effectiveness, and in turn, teach it to other adults: military, law-enforcement and civilians. It is ironic that students are always told to be more “natural and child-like” and yet children in the US don’t routinely train in Systema.
REASON #2: Systema is still relatively NEW to Americans and there are just a small number of qualified teachers in the US. It is hard to find Systema teachers for adults, much less children!
REASON #3: Many teachers don’t want to or just can’t teach a large group of kids Systema. Teaching is a skill of its own and teaching groups of kids a free-form, unstructured martial art with lots of physical contact is truly a rare skill.
Confessions Of A Black Belt
If your child is anything like me then he can benefit from Systema Kids. I went through decades of Asian-based Martial Arts myself before training in Systema—and I excelled. But, I have always been more “right-brained”, never “fit the mold”, was almost kicked out for not following arbitrary rules that made no sense to me, never liked being told what I could not do, rather focused on all the possibilities and what I could do with my martial arts. I wanted to create, not copy. There was just nothing remotely close to Systema available for me as a child…but there is now for your child, thanks to my experiences!
Children are naturally curious, some much more than others and this causes teachers lots of grief. “Why?” “Why can’t I do it this way?” And on and on. The Beauty of Systema for Kids is that, outside of courtesy and respect for others, there are no rules on HOW to perform and execute your child’s martial art skills.
How Russian Systema Is Unlike The Asian-Based Martial Arts You Are Familiar With And Come To Expect
5 Common Questions Parents Ask about our Systema Kids Program
Q: So how do you teach the Lifeskills, like Respect and Discipline, that other Martial Arts teach?
A: First, Systema IS a “Discipline,” just like any other martial art. Therefore, all the same behaviors and etiquette you expect in any martial art are evident in a Systema class. (Bowing—an Asian Custom-- is replaced with handshakes, smiles and high-5’s). Second, Systema Kids learn the same Character Development Program our Karate Kids do. One of the beauties of Systema Kids is that to improve their skills kids MUST improve their character.
Q: How do kids stay motivated without belts and uniforms?
A: Great Question, and an important one! Our Systema Kids program is broken up into teaching topics that your child must learn. At the end of a topic Systema Kids demonstrate their new skills to the rest of the school. They are awarded certificates for attending and completing this topic. There are also various awards, stamps and stickers kids can earn, as well as t-shirts that keep them on track. Systema Kids also come because each class is different, new and exciting!
Q: Why don’t people teach kids Systema?
A: It is not that kids can’t learn Systema, most kids are just taught by their parents. The truth is that, without years of teaching experience like I have, it is much easier to teach kids Systema one-on-one than in a large class of kids.
Q: I have seen Systema on the internet and I am concerned about the Military-Look of it. Is my child going to be turned into a “boy-soldier?”
A: NO, absolutely not! Systema is popular with the military because it is so effective and practical and easy to learn—the same reasons why it will benefit your child. (Incidentally, I was never in the military and teach in sweats and a t-shirt).
WARNING: This Program is Definitely NOT for Every Child
The majority of our young students do, in fact, attend our Traditional American Kenpo Program—a martial art with Asian roots-and benefit greatly. However, over the years I have discovered the specific “child-personality” that would thrive and be better-served learning Systema. That is why I created our Systema Kids Program.
THIS COURSE is NOT for your child IF:
How to Determine if Your Child Qualifies to Train In Our Systema Kids Program Systema Kids is limited to only those children who can train independently, collectively and creatively with the gentle guidance of an expert instructor. Prerequisites for Systema Kids are:
As I said, most children at my school are placed in the Traditional Martial Arts Program-only children who pass a rigorous evaluation are ALLOWED to enroll in the Systema Kids Program.
